The Newness of Life.

Spring is still on it's way even with the ten inches of snow we got Saturday. The brief return of Winter only reminds us of the warm days ahead. The sun reaching high into the sky has power in it again. The likes that we have not felt since September. The Winter blast can not dampen our spirit for very long when you see new life coming into the world. Our cows are having their calves now. Watching these moms labor to birth their new little ones can only inspire you toward green leave and warm breezes. Summer is coming with all it's splendor. The calves that are born struggle to get up for the first time. The moms quickly get up after the calf is born. They are ready to assist the new born with encouragement and gentle nudges to help the new arrival to stand. They go to work immediately cleaning the calf. The calf, up now and very wobbly falls and stumbles but gets right back up, more easily each time. It has a great desire for milk and knows where to find it. I never tire of this process and am always amazed at the hunger for life. Watching the cow and calf you can see a bond developing between them. It is a bond that will grow and dictate the relationship through the Summer into the Fall. This bond will only end when it comes time to wean the calf from it's mom. The cycles on the farm are never ending, one seems to run towards another. Our hopes and dreams are our intimate treasures that we keep in our heart. They are what charge our batteries when they get low and help us embrace that newness of life. All is well down on the farm.
