Tis The Season

The presidential campaign has arrived a tad early this time around. All these presidential wannabees are trying to let every one know just where they stand on every issue. There is no shortage of opinions these days. I can't say that I enjoy all this. As a matter of fact I am sort of getting weary of it. There use to be a time when some one told you something, you could believe it. Not so any more. I guess all a fellow can do is keep his head down till the firestorm is over, then see who is standing and go from there. Our Nation always seemed to supply the right person at the right time in our hour of need. Let us pray that it will happen again. I have faith in America and her people. Americans are different than other people from other countries, we are called to be different. I think I would like to get into that at another time, because it is deep. Back to the original thought, campaigning or what ever they call it. It seems like each campaign cycle get worse than the one before it. I wonder where it will end. I came across this poem, seems appropriate.
Political Campaigning
Spineless matter soft to touch,
Biting tongues mutter and such.
Wisdom flees before they think.
Foolish wines the cup they drink.
Hardened hearts advance their schemes,
Reset minds with shattered dreams.
Bitter words on they come,
Wondering legions of deaf and dumb.
Banners held high, first line in four,
Second line brigades, fools by the score.
Third line naves who try to atone,
Fourth line Generals who stayed at home.
by T. A. C.
Each morning the sun comes up, faithfully, you can trust it. Each evening it goes down, faithfully, you can trust it. What we do as a people between these two points will determine who we are as a people. For who we are is who we were. And to understand who we are we need to understand who we were. Sleep tight for all is well down on the farm.

The Newness of Life.

Spring is still on it's way even with the ten inches of snow we got Saturday. The brief return of Winter only reminds us of the warm days ahead. The sun reaching high into the sky has power in it again. The likes that we have not felt since September. The Winter blast can not dampen our spirit for very long when you see new life coming into the world. Our cows are having their calves now. Watching these moms labor to birth their new little ones can only inspire you toward green leave and warm breezes. Summer is coming with all it's splendor. The calves that are born struggle to get up for the first time. The moms quickly get up after the calf is born. They are ready to assist the new born with encouragement and gentle nudges to help the new arrival to stand. They go to work immediately cleaning the calf. The calf, up now and very wobbly falls and stumbles but gets right back up, more easily each time. It has a great desire for milk and knows where to find it. I never tire of this process and am always amazed at the hunger for life. Watching the cow and calf you can see a bond developing between them. It is a bond that will grow and dictate the relationship through the Summer into the Fall. This bond will only end when it comes time to wean the calf from it's mom. The cycles on the farm are never ending, one seems to run towards another. Our hopes and dreams are our intimate treasures that we keep in our heart. They are what charge our batteries when they get low and help us embrace that newness of life. All is well down on the farm.
